Scaling Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Form 8AX

Abstract

New forms of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) were implemented for operational use on 1 October 1980. This report covers the calibration of the new forms based on a sample of applicants for enlistment and on a combined sample of applicants and recruits. Independent scaling efforts were conducted on samples of enlistees and of high school students. The three calibration efforts were in close agreement in the critical score region (10th through 30th percentile scores). The results indicate that the score scale for ASVAB 8/9/10 accurately tracks to the Department of Defense traditional reference population.
