Micro Resource Estimation Research Project. Phase IV.

Abstract

Microestimation is a technique by which system analysts predict the manpower requirements needed to make changes to computer programs. During the past three years, Raven Systems and Research has conducted several studies related to microestimation, and it has recently developed a prototype Automated Microestimation system (AMS). This report is provided to accompany the delivery of the AMS. It is both a description of the new system and a summary of research to date. This report consists of four parts: (1) The history of the microestimation study, including significant conclusions; (2) AMS development and overall design and operation; (3) Questions related to interfacing AMS with several other systems either currently in existence or under development, and (4) Several general problems related to microestimation, brought to light as a result of the entire microestimation study. Part IV also makes recommendations for further development and research related to the AMS and microestimating in general.
