Demonstration Prototype Automated Ammunition Handling and Loading System for a 155-mm Self-Propelled Howitzer Test Bed

Abstract

A design concept for a fully automatic loading and handling system for use as a demonstration prototype is presented. A sustained rate-of-fire of 10 rounds per minute, fast response, and simplified man-machine interface are achieved with the use of technology proven in automatic naval guns. A detailed description of the system concept and the discussion of the major influences driving the design of such systems is included, as well as control system, shock, and vibration considerations.
