Microterminal/Microfiche System for Computer-Assisted Testing and Interactive Instruction.

Abstract

Development of a microterminal/microfiche system represents an effort to reduce the costs of computer based instruction yet maintain significant benefits associated with such instruction. The microterminal is a microprocessor-based, student input device designed to accommodate the computer-managed instructional functions related to student testing. The microterminal interfaced with an off-the-shelf microfiche reader also provides a low cost, low level form of computer-assisted instruction. Cost reduction goals in the design of the system were a function of focusing attention on response handling capabilities of the system and the utilization of more conventional information presentation media.
