Polyphase Pulse Compression Waveforms

Abstract

This report discusses radar pulse-compression waveforms and the advantages of digital polyphase codes over analog waveforms. The Frank polyphase code is investigated in detail and generalized. It is shown that the relative sidelobes of a compressed Frank-coded waveform degrade in the presence of bandlimiting prior to pulse compression. The P1 and P2 polyphase codes are shown to be tolerant of precompression bandlimitation. Finally, applications for these polyphase codes are discussed.
