Design and Fabrication of Prototype Modified Demilitarization Protective Ensembles for 2 1/2 Hour Self-Contained Use.

Abstract

A modified design of the Demilitarization Protective Ensemble for 2 1/2 hr. self-contained operation was developed, fabricated and tested. A commercially available prototype rebreather was selected for use with the system. The ensemble includes a liquid cooled undergarment and active breathing air cooling. The Outergarment is designed to maintain positive suit pressure. Two types of ensembles were developed; one made of CPE for use in ambient temperatures of 32 F to 100 F, and one made of butyl coated nylon for use in ambient temperatures of 0 F to 32 F. Twenty four endurance tests have determined that the ensembles used in these temperature ranges meet all design criterion. A one hour self-contained version was also developed. It includes a commercially available one hour rebreather, a liquid cooled body vest, active breathing air cooling, and positive suit pressure. Prototype self-contained chemical protective ensembles for both 1 hr. and 2 1/2 hr. use were fabricated and delivered. (Author)
