A Model of the Domestic Commercial Satellite Industry: A Different Perspective.

Abstract

The domestic satellite (DOMSAT) industry has progressed through many stages of development in its short history. These stages of development are based on the areas of influence that deeply affect the direction of the industry. Based on the author's model of industry structure, conduct and performance, a model of the telecommunications industry past and present is developed. The stages of the telecommunications industry are based on the premise that various external environmental factors played a key role in influencing the industry as it progressed over time. Satellite communications technology has its base in the telecommunications industry and thus follow a similar pattern of development through four major stages of growth that impact the DOMSAT industry structure, conduct and performance.
