Defensive Aerial Gunner Career Ladder AFS 111X0.

Abstract

Inventory booklets were administered to Defensive Aerial Gunners (AFS 111X0) worldwide. Analysis results are based on the responses from 444 AFS 111X0 incumbents (72% of assigned). More than 99% of the incumbents were assigned to SAC, Gunners, regardless of job or skill level, tended to perform a common set of operational tasks. As they progressed in skill level and TAFMS, more of their time tended to be spent performing training, supervisory, and management tasks, while less time was spent performing the operational tasks. Their jobs formed two distinguishable groups of operational gunners and staff managers. The operational gunners' jobs were further identifiable in groups according to aircraft model type (B-52D, G or H) and whether they were assigned as Combat Crew Training Squadron (CCTS) instructors.
