Trade Staff in Research Establishments: A Recent Case Study.

Abstract

Persistent efforts have been made to introduce a range of additional classifications for tradesmen in research establishments to combat the continually high labour turnover. Recognition has been gained for the introduction of a Laboratory Craftsman category in research establishments in the D.S.T.O. (Defense Science and Technology Organization) generally. This note calls attention to the critical shortages of skilled tradesmen in a D.S.T.O. (Defense Science and Technology Organization) Laboratory (ARL) and the urgent need for the implementation of a Laboratory Craftsman structure.
