A Soviet Battalion Commander Organizes for Battle 1981.

Abstract

In this paper, the author constructs a composite picture of the actions of a Soviet motorized rifle battalion commander as he organizes his unit for entry into a combat operation. The overall description is gleaned from eight separate sources, each of which addresses some of the commander's activities, but none of which treat the subject in its entirety. The paper begins with the battalion commander's reception of the attack mission and studies all significant actions which he undertakes to prepare his unit to accomplish the mission. (Author)
