MX Missile Basing and ABM Defenses

Abstract

Cost-effectiveness tradeoffs among missiles, silos or shelters, exoatmospheric interceptors and endoatmospheric interceptors are explored. Symmetric U.S. and Soviet force structures are treated, as well as U.S. options against Soviet force structures similar to the current one. The effects of exoatmospheric interceptor impact-point prediction are highlighted.
