Theory of Pulse Propagation and Coherence in Free Electron Lasers.

Abstract

Pulse propagation in several free electron laser designs is examined along with mode instabilities, oscillator evolution, spontaneous emission, transverse wavefront propagation, and Coulomb forces. The designs explored include the simple undulator, the tapered undulator, the optical klystron, and the transverse gradient gain-expansion magnet. (Author)
