HF Radionoise Models for Severely Disturbed Propagation Environments.

Abstract

Models and sample results are given for the natural HF radio-noise environment under conditions of severe disturbance to HF sky-wave propagation, such as might be produced by the detonation of numbers of high-altitude nuclear explosions in a major attack. Both local and remote atmospheric-noise sources are treated, and the effects on cosmic noise and atmospheric noise of changes in the F-region critical frequency are included.
