Efficiency of a General Pin Pallet Runaway Escapement

Abstract

This study developed a technique for evaluating the torque transfer efficiency of a pin pallet runaway escapement. It represents an extension of an earlier effort. The geometry of the escapement has now been generalized and the effects of spin forces are considered. For instance, it is no longer necessary for the pallet pins to be symmetrically located, and the pallet is permitted to have a center of mass which does not coincide with the pivot. In addition, the influence of pivot friction forces is now included. The formulation of the technique, the computer program, a sample run, and instructions for applying the program are included in this report.
