Seeker Target System Investigation.
Abstract
The design and construction of a target source simulation breadboard is discussed. The seeker target system (STS) is designed to be used to test infrared, laser, and electro-optical guided missiles in the Rome Air Development Center (RADC) anechoic test chamber. In this test, a missile will be subjected to RF radiation to determine its electromagnetic interference (EMI) susceptibility. In particular, the tests will attempt to determine the conditions which cause loss of missile control as a function of target parameters. In these tests, the simulator will provide a target upon which to lock the missile seeker and control gimbal pointing angle and track rate. The objective of this effort is to validate the design concept through the construction of a breadboard system. A primary goal of the breadboard design was to produce a system that would be as close to a fully operational simulator as possible. This goal has in fact been accomplished, with the final design meeting or exceeding nearly all critical design goals.
