The Army War College and the Study of Military History

Abstract

The purpose of the paper was to determine how the study of military history as fared at the Army War College and to assess trends in AWC student attitudes toward military history since an original Army study of military history in 1971. A questionnaire was distributed to assess the interest and background in military history of current AWC students and attempts to measure their collective attitude towards its value and uses. The author's overriding general conclusion is that military history in the AWC curriculum has been inadequate.
