Ceramic Life Prediction Methodology - Hot Spin Disc Life Program.

Abstract

A rotating disc was designed to fail due to time dependent mechanisms. Several discs were fabricated and a previously existing test rig was developed to test the discs at the design conditions. A successful calibration test was conducted at the design condition of 2300 deg F rim temperature and 50,000 rpm. The disc failed after eight and one-half hours of steady state testing indicating that the design was successful, since the failure was due to a time dependent mechanism. (Author)
