The Carbonization and Graphitization of Phenanthrene.

Abstract

The carbonization of phenanthrene and the effect of carbonization conditions on the formation of cokes and graphites were studied. Phenanthrene is an organic precursor predominant in coal-tar pitches, that are used in the production of graphite electrodes and as the binder in carbon-carbon composites.
