Toward the Use of Availability Models for Spares Computations in the Department of Defense

Abstract

This report examines the inventory management systems of the Military Departments and the Defense Logistics Agency with special focus on spares requirements computational methods. It concludes that important changes are needed in order to implement availability optimization models that could support availability goals specified by weapon system.
