Nonlocal Effects of Crack Curving.

Abstract

The nonlocal elasticity solution is obtained for the Griffith crack problem under combined loadings, Modes I and II. It is shown that the fracture begins at a critical point in the neighborhood of the crack tip. The location of the critical point is determined and the critical angle at which the crack begins to deviate from its straight line path is determined. These results are in good agreement with atomic lattice theory, and classical predictions. (Author)
