Sources of Errors in Locating Weather Systems in Imagery from Polar-Orbiting Satellites--A Short Primer in Spacecraft Geometry.

Abstract

Accurate tracking of meteorological systems in satellite imagery requires recognition and correction of location errors. This technical note discusses three sources of location errors: satellite attitude, orbital anomalies, and satellite perspective. These errors may be corrected in the gridding process.
