Validation of Naval Academy Selection Procedures for Female Midshipmen.

Abstract

Current U.S. Naval Academy selection procedures were developed for the exclusively male population that existed there before July 1976. This research was initiated to assess the appropriateness of these procedures for female midshipmen and to revise the procedures if the system was found ineffective. Male and female midshipmen in the classes of 1980 through 1983 were compared to determine whether differences existed in mean predictor and performance scores and to assess the validity of predictors.
