Long Range Materials Research. Supplement 1. Investigation of Luminescence from Trapped Excitons in CsI,

Abstract

It is well known that normally pure alkali halide crystals (AHC) show the so-called intrinsic luminescence at low temperatures when excited by both ionizing radiations (like chi, beta, or gamma-rays) and nonionizing ultra-violet radiations. Excitations are usually limited to the absorption bands of the intrinsic exciton (electron-hole pair bound together by their Coulombic interactions) as well as to band-to-band transitions.
