Abstract

The Study area includes the Yellow Bank, Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Redwood and Cottonwood Rivers drainage areas, all tributaries to the Minnesota River. This report is a review of problems and needs identification and focuses on alternative solutions. A primary feasibility report and environmental assessment will complete stage II. Problems include flooding, erosion and sedimentation, water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, and water use and supply. Alternatives are included for land treatment, channel alternatives, public purchase of floodplain lands, foodplain evacuation and enforcement, flood proofing, restoration of wetlands, and storage reservoirs.
