Powder Spectroscopy in the Infrared Spectral Region.

Abstract

Experimental work is reported in the following areas: evaluation of infrared optical properties of obscurants using reflection and transmission methods; development of instrument components for a millimeter wave spectrometer; development of laser-based instrument for the measurement of optical constants of powders using internal reflection techniques; and construction of apparatus to measure the angular distribution of infrared laser radiation scattered from infinitely long conducting wires. The following projects were completed and resulted in publications: infrared optical constants of carbon powders determined from reflection measurements; far-infrared band pass filters; and far-infrared absorption of thiophene in the liquid and plastic phases.
