Laser Irradiation of SV40 DNA.

Abstract

Simian virus 40 DNA was irradiated by a high intensity ArF excimer laser. Analysis by gel electrophoresis, neutral sucrose gradient analysis, and alkaline sucrose gradient analysis showed that the laser irradiation leads to breaking of the sugar phosphate backbone in a sequential manner at random sites. The causitive process is either attack by laser generated free radicals or two photon direct scission. (Author)
