Median Filtering of Speckle Noise.

Abstract

A digital model was developed which simulates the physical process of speckle noise generation in coherent imagery. This was used to determine the effectiveness of two-dimensional digital filters for the reduction of speckle noise. Median filters, ranked order filters, and separable combinations of these were evaluated and found to yield good improvement in image signal-to-noise ratios. (Author)
