Flood Control Burlington Dam, Souris River, North Dakota. Draft Environmental Impact Statement,

Abstract

The proposed plan includes a dam near Burlington; a raise of Lake Darling Dam; a diversion tunnel to carry flood flows on the Des Lacs River to the Souris River above Burlington Dam; and downstream levee improvements. The plan would provide protection from flooding for the occupants of the Minot area floodplain and of the Souris River floodplain downstream from Minot. Upstream from the reservoir and above Lake Darling Dam, terrestrial vegetation such as grasslands, wetlands, and bottomland hardwoods would be significantly affected by periods of flood water storage.
