Desirable Characteristics of Underwater Lights for Helicopter Escape Hatches

Abstract

To specify the desirable characteristics of lighting around helicopter escape hatches which must be visible under water, tests were carried out of several types of lights. The optimal arrangement of lights around the hatch, their minimum and maximum intensity, the effects of viewing angle on their visibility, the effects of the dimensions of the lights, and the variations in the intensity of the electro-luminescent panels with changes in the power supplied were determined.
