Natural Areas Inventory 1981 (GREAT III)

Abstract

The length of the study area included that segment of the Mississippi River from Saverton, Missouri to the mouth of the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois. Using detailed, systematic methodology, 116 potential natural areas were selected, examined, and rejected if the sites did not qualify. Fifty-nine unique geologic or biological communities were identified. The inventory includes location, ownership, type, and significance of each site, along with a map series showing each area.
