Reduction in Force: Organizational and Individual Issues.

Abstract

This manuscript reviews a number of issues associated with the events occurring when organizations reduce the number of employees in their work force. Management and psychological literature are reviewed with respect to the criteria used for deciding who to terminate, how should the termination process be managed, the psychological impact on the individuals terminated, and the potential impact of outplacement services. Attention is drawn to the scant amount of research available to guide management and psychologists dealing with this very real process. (Author)
