Time Dependent Inelastic Behavior of Materials.

Abstract

This report reviews the program of work performed under Grant AFOSR-80-0214, sponsored by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research through the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development (EOARD) during the period 1 July 1980 to 30 September 1982. The following topics were studied during this period: determination of the strain-rate dependent stress-strain behavior of metal matrix composites and laminates whose constituents are elastic-viscoplastic materials exhibiting both isotropic and anisotropic workhardening; creep response of metals subjected to varying stresses and to a large range of stress; wave propagation in rods of elastic-viscoplastic workhardening materials; prediction of the formation of adiabatic shear bands in metals subjected to high rates of loading; and further development of an anisotropic work-hardening theory. Publications based on the research program are listed. (Author)
