Single Particle Impact Testing. Alternate Materials Study.

Abstract

This technical report documents the single particle impact testing conducted as part of the alternate materials study task for Transpiration Cooled Nosetips (TCNT) on the Active Cooling Technology Development (ACTD) program. Single particle impact testing was conducted on two materials, pure Molybdenum and Molybdenum TZM. The data obtained was reduced to an erosion coefficient/temperature Cn (T), and compared to existing data for stainless steel. Hypervelocity impact testing was conducted on the two candidate TCNT materials. (Author)
