Scanning Photoacoustic Microscopy of Aluminum with Aluminum Oxide, Roughness Standards and Rubber

Abstract

Scanning Photoacoustic Microscopy (SPAM) images of aluminum with 0%, 24%, and 36% aluminum oxide grit, of surface roughness standards, and of track shoe pad rubber are shown. Considerable structure is evident in the images, even in the supposedly uniform sample of aluminum with 0% grit. Further research is necessary to relate the structure evident in the images which cannot be correlated with visible features to properties of the materials.
