Relationship between Anthropometric and Strength Measurements of Canadian Forces Personnel,
Abstract
In support of the development of occupational physical selection standards (OPSS) for Canadian Forces (CF) trades, the relationships between anthropometric parameters and static and dynamic strength tests were investigated. Data were collected from 355 CF males and analysis included calculation of simple correlation coefficients between strength and direct measures of anthropometry as well as derived ratios. Regression equations were also generated for both the static and the dynamic strength tests. The results revealed low correlations between anthropometry and these particular strength tests. As a result, the usefulness of these relationships for predictive purposes for OPSS is questionable.
