Non-Normal Projectile Penetration in Soil and Rock: User's Guide for Computer Code PENC02D.
Abstract
A computer program called PENCO2D has been developed to analyze the non-normal impact and penetration of any rigid axisymmetric projectile into soil or rock. Horizontal target layering is allowed with accounts made for free-surface, interface, and wake separation-reattachment effects. Expressions for the compressive normal stress presented in U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station Technical Report SL-79-15 are summed over the projectile surface, and the equations of motion are integrated step-by-step using a two-dimensional Newtonian integration scheme. Variables and format of PENCO2D's input file, as well as output options, are given. To demonstrate use of PENCO2D, three sample problems are discussed, with setup and output shown. A utility program called MOMENT, which calculates projectile weight, center-of-gravity location, and mass moments of inertia, its presented along with two example calculations. (Author)
