Synthesis of Novel Fluorine Compounds: New Experimental Challenges in Elemental Fluorine Chemistry.

Abstract

A series of highly branched perfluorocarbon polyethers were prepared and are being characterized. Thermal analysis shows that some of the branched polyethers are stable to about 420 degrees C. The synthetic scheme involves partial direct fluorination with diluted molecular fluorine of a hydrocarbon ester, followed by conversion of the carboxyl groups with sulfur tetrafluoride.
