Crystal Growth of: Yttrium Phosphate Ce3+:Thorium Dioxide Ce3+:Lanthanum Aluminate.

Abstract

Single crystals of YPO4 were grown from various types of fluxes, and their potential as polarizers in high power lasers was investigated. Although the crystals showed high resistance to damage by laser radiation, they were of poor quality due to cracks and flux inclusions. Crystals of Ce-doped ThO2 and LaAlO3 were grown by fluxed melt techniques using fluxes of various compositions. Standard absorption and luminescence techniques were used to evaluate the potential of these Ce-doped crystals for a solid state laser emitting in the blue-green region of the spectrum. No visible luminescence was observed from the crystals. (Author)
