An Axisymmetric, Numerical Model for a Non-Hydrostatic Boussinesq Ocean.

Abstract

This report documents an axisymmetric, non-hydrostatic ocean model. The governing equations are first presented, and the finite difference (FD) form of the governing equations are developed for the fully staggered grid. The elliptic diagnostic equation for pressure is then derived and the associated boundary conditions are discussed. A listing of the FORTRAN codes of the model and a hydrostatic version of the model are attached. This model is useful for studies such as ocean response to circular wind fields or the secondary flow within Gulf Stream rings. (Author)
