A Decision Support System for U.S. Army Unit Status Reporting.

Abstract

The Unit Status Report is the method employed by U.S. Army units to report their combat readiness to the Department of the Army and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This critically important information is currently acquired, processed and transmitted using manual methods that do not take advantage of the latest developments in computer technology. An alternate method is presented that uses a Decision Support System to assist the unit commander to accurately and efficiently process his data and determine the correct combat readiness rating to report. The paper includes a general description of Decision Support Systems and the specific design, including a computer program written in Pascal, of a Decision Support System to improve the reporting method.
