Dredged Material Containment in Long Island Sound.

Abstract

The scope of this study includes consideration of material dredged from Connecticut harbors only. The preliminary siting of containment facilities include only the locations on the Connecticut side of the sound. The study extends inward along the Housatonic, Connecticut, and Thames Rivers to the upstream limits of their respective Federal channels. There was a 50 year design life used for containment facility sizing and two types of channel maintenance and construction were considered: Federal project and other projects allowed under Federal permit. This study has been concerned with large volume containment alternatives for long-term dredged material disposal in LIS.
