Soviet News and Propaganda Analysis Based on RED STAR (The Official Newspaper of the Soviet Defense Establishment) for the Period 1-31 October 1982, Volume 2, Number 10, 1982.

Abstract

Moscow initiated a major propaganda campaign to emphasize the role of the USSR as a world peace maker. The Soviets headlined that: The world media and public opinion praise the Soviet lead for peace and disarmament; The United Nations General Assembly agrees to discuss the Soviet proposal on cessation of nuclear testing; Soviet peace initiatives are supported by the majority of countries in the United Nations; Reagan is waging an anti-socialist campaign/crusade, while the USSR supports disarmament; and The Pentagon's policies of limited nuclear war and increasing the size of its military forces are a clear and real danger to world peace.
