Theoretical Considerations and User's Manual for a Modified XYZ Potential Flow Program for Calculating Five Degrees-of-Freedom Velocity Potentials.

Abstract

The XYZ Potential Flow Computer Program (XYZPF) has been modified to include the calculation of perturbation and total velocity potentials for on-body and off-body points. The program's capabilities have also been extended from three to five degrees of freedom by incorporating calculations for two rotational degrees of freedom of the body (body rotation about its Y and Z axes). In addition to these modifications which increase the program's capabilities, the program, which was originally written for a CDC 6700 computer, was rewritten to fit on a PDP 11/34 computer. Test cases of a sphere and 2:1 ellipsoid were run and results compared well with known analytical solutions.
