Automatic Seismic Discrimination System (ASDIS).
Abstract
This report, contains most of the material usually found in a Computer Program Development Specification. It gives detailed requirements for a computer program which is to perform automatic seismic discrimination. The proposed computer program, an expansion of one currently in use at the Seismic Data Analysis Center, is logically divided into two parts. The first part makes measurements on seismograms (feature selection). The measured features include time domain amplitudes, frequency domain amplitudes, narrowband filtered amplitudes, complexity and autoregressive moving average (ARMA) coefficients. The second part combines the features for each seismic station in an optimal manner, using the techniques of multivariate linear discriminant analysis. Statistical data analysis is not included within the proposed computer program. The results of the prior analysis of training data are made available to the program in the form of feature weighting factors. (Author)
