An Estimate of Some Strengths and Weaknesses of the Soviet Naval Officer That Could Affect His Performance in Future Combat.

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to provide information that will assist in estimating the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet naval officer in future combat. This will be accomplished by: (1) examining the observations of senior German military officers, who fought the Soviets in World War II, on the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet's fighting qualities during that conflict, and (2) examining the qualities that are considered by the Soviet Navy today as being necessary for victory in future combat. The results of these two examinations will be compared so as to provide some insight into the fighting qualities that could be expected from the Soviet naval officer in combat. This information when used in conjunction with intelligence data will assist in estimating the strengths and weaknesses of Soviet naval officers in future combat. (Author)
