Installation Restoration Program. Phase 1 - Records Search, Robins AFB, Georgia.

Abstract

The Department of Defense (DOD) has developed a program to identify and evaluate past hazardous material disposal sites on DOD property, to control the migration of hazardous contaminants, and to control hazards to health or welfare that may result from these past disposal operations. This program is called the Installation Restoration Program (IRP). Thirteen disposal sites located on the Robins AFB property were identified as containing hazardous waste resulting from past waste disposal activities. These sites have been assessed using a hazardous assessment rating methodology (HARM) which takes into account factors such as site characteristics, waste characteristics, potential for contaminant migration and waste management practices. The details of the rating procedure are presented and the results of the assessment are given. The rating system is designed to indicate the relative need follow-on action. Recommendations for further assessment of potential contaminent migration are included.
