Graphic Simulations of the Poisson Process.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an effort to develop visual simulations of a variety of stochastic models via a relatively new media, the microcomputer. The theme for this project is the Poisson process. Four computer programs are provided that simulate the process either by itself or in applications. Represented are a simple and a superimposed Poisson process, an M/M/1 queue, a dam model and a damage model. Descriptions of the programs and instructions to operate them are found in the User Guide. The remainder of this paper will touch upon several aspects of the project and programs that may be of interest to the general reader or of importance to those who may wish to pursue work of this nature.
