A One-Parameter Solution for Seamount Slope.

Abstract

This report documents a computer program that augments an already operational, automatic seamount detector. Featured again are a digital filter, a modified roughness indicator, a physical model accounting for the effect of seamount gravitation on the sea surface, as well as the algorithm performing the actual model parameter estimation. While the existing seamount detector calculates the seamount peak submergence depth in the process of solving for the seamount base width, it is now assumed that the latter quantity may be readily deduced from the altimetry pattern. It becomes then possible to simultaneously compute the seamount peak depth and the slope angle. Included once more are an error analysis program segment and an appendix listing the numerical checkout data. (Author)
