Evaluation of an Observation-Based Climatology Model for Predicting Visibility for Data-Void Locations in Germany.

Abstract

An observation-based climatological model for predicting visibility in data-void locations in Germany previously developed is evaluated. Two methods are used. First the model based on data from thirty stations (calibration set) is evaluated using a second set of thirty stations (evaluation set). Second, the model is evaluated using 'sample re-use'. The model was shown to give good results for estimating visibility results for nearly all of the stations. (Author)
