Abstract

The major industrial operations include pneudraulic, engine, aerospace ground equipment, corrosion control, and wheel and tire maintenance shops. These industrial operations have generated varying quantities of waste oils, fuels, solvents, and cleaners. The total quantity of these wastes ranged from 25,000 to 50,000 gallons per year. The standard procedures for the final disposition of the majority of the waste oils, fuels, and solvents has been (1) fire department training exercises (1941 to 1946), (2) fire department training exercises, contractor collection and removal, and discharge to sanitary sewers and storm drains (1955-1975), and (3) segregation and conveyance to DPDO for off-base disposal (1975-presented). Interviews with past and present base employees resulted in the identification of 14 past disposal or spill sites at Moody AFB and the approximate dates that these sites were used.
